Source: 7 Great Education Policy Ideas for Progressives in 2018
SES (Supplemental Education Services) is an initiative that was part of the No Child Left Behind. It started out a little rough, because the implementation of SES led to the hiring of Tutors with criminal records, very little quality control in terms of the tutors that were hired and how all districts, SES siphoned off Title I funds, leaving less for other important Title I programs. However, even though this was true, SES eventually wound up doing a lot better. Eventually, the quality of the tutoring improved and eventually, every student with an educationally engaged parent had access to one-on-one tutoring. One benefit that SES provided in addition to better academic performance was better engagement in schooling. As in SES helped to garner a good and focused mindset in many kids when it came to schooling. In my opinion, policies and initiatives like SES are completely necessary because without good schooling and a good mindset, success can be a lot harder.
